Believe it or not, plus-size models in Asia are being more and more present in this continent where body shamming and, mostly fat shamming, is recurrent. Indeed, overweight people and fat people are usually the target of many critics both on social media and in real life. However, with the movement “Body Positivity”, Asian plus-size models and influencers are being more popular on social media such as Instagram and YouTube in order to inspire social media users and people to be more open-minded and to stop the discrimination of plus-size person.
Those influencers are a source of inspiration as they encourage their followers to feel confident in their bodies and to love themselves. They are all confident and gorgeous women with an incredible sense of fashion. They come from different countries who each have a different vision and opinion of body positivity. Here are few influencers and plus-size model that have a lot of influence on Instagram that you may (or not) know:
Naomi Watanabe / Japan 🇯🇵

IG: @watanabenaomi703 / 9.2M followers
Vivian Geeyang Kim / South Korea 🇰🇷

IG: @plusmodel / 11.3k followers
Veronica Pome’e / Polynesia 🇵🇫

IG: @veronicapomee / 52.2k followers
Alison Teng / China (based in Los Angeles) 🇨🇳

In Asia, the Body Positivity movement is not as accepted and acknowledged by the population as in occidental countries. For example, in South Korea, being overweight or fat is not something that people see as good or acceptable and mostly in the entertainment industry. Indeed “idols” (a term used for singers) are criticized by K-netizens (Korean internet users) and are pressured to lose weight. The agencies they are in force them to weight maximum 121,254 Ibs (55 kilos).
Many Asian plus-sized models and influencers are being more and more popular on social media and helps to popularized the “Body Positivity” movement as they show their confident side. Furthermore, they help and inspire their followers to be as confident as they are.

I truly am so happy to see more and more asian plus size influencer and model because as you said in some countries fathoming is really present. AND YES IDOLS ARE WAY TO MUCH CRITICIZED BY K-NETIZENS WHEN IT COMES TO THEIR WEIGHT ( I wrote an article about that and mainly about the RedVelvet's Wendy case on our blog ShameOnYou 1F if you wanna check it out 😉) But yeah I love the fact that they start giving more confidence to those people !!!! And their fashion is just sooooo on point
